Sarah Hughes is a Managing Director in the Chicago office of the Audit and Assurance Services practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP. Sarah has spent 20 years specializing in private company audits and compliance auditing, primarily in the public sector, not for profit and higher education industries. Sarah leads Deloitte's Compliance Studio, a national team of audit professionals who focus on compliance auditing requirements. Additionally serving as a specialized compliance, public sector and not-for-profit industry expert, Sarah leads her teams through the successful execution of financial statement audits, single audits under OMB Uniform Guidance, and other various attest and agreed-upon-procedure engagements. Sarah is directly involved in the desgining and execution of the firm's industry trainings and events, with a focus on single audit and other compliance auditing.
Kelly Chamberlin
Kelly Chamberlin is a Managing Director in the National Office of Deloitte & Touche, LLP. She serves as Government Auditing Standards and Compliance expert in the firm's National Industry and Professional Practice Network. WIth more than 20 years of experience, she has served a variety of state and local governments, not-for-profits, and higher education institutions in the Government Auditing Standards and Compliance space. She currently serves as the firm's representative to the AICPA Government Audit Quality Center Executive Committee. She has written and delivered a number of presentations on single audits and other compliance audits, Government Auditing Standards, and other government topics. As the firm's specialist on Government Auditing Standards and Compliance, she leads the initiative on audit quality and is responsible for audit content, learning, and policies and procedures on the topics.
Mallory Fairless

Mallory is a Partner in Crowe's National Exempt Organization Tax Services practice. Boasting over 18 years of dedicated service, she has spent her entire career working with exempt organizations at Crowe. Her career has been marked by leadership in compliance and consulting for a diverse range of entities, including national and regional health systems, higher education and other not for profit organizations. Professional & Industry Experience Ms. Fairless oversees compliance efforts for several tax-exempt organizations, serves as a technical resource for the Exempt Organization Tax practice and consults on various tax matters unique to the nonprofit sector. Mallory leads Crowe's Exempt Organization Learning and Thought Leadership team and is an esteemed Associate Member of the AICPA Exempt Organizations Tax Technical Resource Panel. Ms. Fairless is well versed in reporting issues faced by tax-exempt organizations, including Form 990 compliance, unrelated business income, compensation and fringe benefit issues, Section 4960, applications for exemption, disclosures of foreign activities, section 501(r), and the Inflation Reduction Act and related Energy Incentives. Kimberly has more than 20 years of audit and accounting experience, focusing on nonprofit and governmental organizations. She has worked with a variety of entities, including universities, community colleges, social service organizations, foundations, food banks, municipalities, villages, school districts, tollway authorities and water commission districts. She has helped plan and manage Uniform Guidance audits for student financial aid and other education department programs, social service programs, and highway planning and construction grants for governmental clients as well as agreed-upon procedures. She also has provided accounting, financial reporting, financial statement audit, and Uniform Guidance services for nonprofits, including universities, foundations, food banks, and social services organizations. Kimberly is a member of the America Institute of CPAs and Illinois CPA Society. Kimberly also is a board member for a local nonprofit and serves on the finance committee. She is a 2003 graduate of Benedictine University, Lisle, Illinois, with a B.B.A. degree in accounting.

He has extensive experience leading financial statement audits, internal control evaluations, and risk assessments for entities ranging from charitable organizations and associations to colleges, universities, and governmental organizations.

Brian has almost 30 years of tax, legal, and accounting experience in the nonprofit sector. Areas of nonprofit consultation which Brian possesses expertise include public support test calculations and planning, preparation of reasonable compensation rebuttable presumption binders and Reasonable Compensation Studies, governance best practices consultation, recommendations regarding effective Bylaws, conducting of Governance Check-Ups, compliance with the §501(h) lobbying safe harbor, proper functional expense allocations, maximizing charity watchdog ratings, preparation of federal and state Tax Exemption Applications, conducting of unrelated business income revenue stream studies, preparing state charitable solicitation registrations, managing IRS and state nonprofit examinations and the proper internal and external reporting of special event fundraisers. Brian is currently an adjunct professor for the University of California Irvine, teaching the Nonprofit Accounting course in the Master of Professional Accountancy program. Additionally, Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the TE/GE EO Council and is the Chair of the TE/GE Subgroup for the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Committee. Brian earned his Bachelors degree in Finance/Marketing from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctor from the Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington). Personal interests include hiking and camping, sports memorabilia collecting, playing fantasy sports, Asian cooking and spending time with his wife, 3 kids and puppy.

Megan Angle, CPA has been with Porte Brown LLC for 13 years. Prior to joining the Porte Brown team upon her graduation from Judson University, Megan had 4 years of industry experience working for a Not-for-Profit organization while completing her college education. As such, she brings a unique perspective to her audit work. Megan serves as a board president for the Tri-Town YMCA as well as a board member of her local chamber of commerce. Megan also serves as a Chair of the Illinois CPA Society's Not for Profit Committee and a member of the Committee Structure & Volunteerism Task Force. Megan is also a member of the Association of Professional Fundraisers.

Joshua Bream, CPA, CFE serves as the Director of Audit Quality for Porte Brown, where he is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight and implementation of Porte Brown’s system of quality management. His role includes ensuring compliance with independence requirements and leading ongoing quality monitoring initiatives that support the Audit & Review Services teams in achieving continuous improvement. With more than a decade of experience in public accounting and an additional decade of experience in private industry, Joshua brings a well-rounded and distinctive perspective to his responsibilities. Prior to joining Porte Brown, Joshua held Senior Manager and Director positions within the audit services practices at Grant Thornton and PKF Mueller (now Cherry Bekaert). Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in advancing quality initiatives and has served in a variety of quality-focused roles. Joshua is particularly passionate about supporting not-for-profit organizations and possesses extensive experience in not-for-profit financial reporting and compliance with the Uniform Guidance. Bernadette D. Zita, CPA MST, Senior Manager, BKD CPAs and Advisors I focus on tax issues impacting tax exempt organizations including the complex rules governing tax exempt status, excise taxes, unrelated business taxable income, intermediate sanctions, private inurement/private benefit, compliance and information reporting, alternative investments, charitable gifts, and excise taxes relating to private foundations. I am a speaker at various forums where I speak on topics affecting exempt organizations including the Illinois CPA Society and the Association Forum. In addition to speaking, I have written several articles and participate on webcasts relating to relevant exempt organization tax issues. I also serve as a member on the Illinois CPA Society Not-for-Profit Committee, Illinois CPA Society Women's Committee and Chicago Women in Philanthropy. I am a 1990 graduate of University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, with a B.S. degree in accounting, and a 1997 graduate of DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois, with a M.S. degree in taxation.
